1 John II, 16 — 'ἀλαζονία' - 'alazonia' - boasting, display of arrogance
.
The apostle John concludes today's reading by speaking of a Gentile world that exists according to the tendencies of various sins and sinful passions (similar to the respective passages of Paul, James and Peter), and does not fully realise the depth of its decay. It is not what the Lord wants to save in creation, for He did not create or bless all these things — sins and passions - but He wants to save human beings, the creation that has fallen. Therefore, in this passage the word world
is synonymous with the opposition of creation to God's purpose for it. Hence the logic.
