it is written that the use of prepositions is important for the correct understanding of important and actual issues, in particular the issue of power, I am writing commentaries on the use of these prepositions. As a piece of advice on how to read the text, you can read the verse in translation and/or in the original (if you have the opportunity), and then the commentary on prepositions here. Next, you need to understand which part of the verse the commentary refers to, and consider what it affirms — or less often, denies — that is essential to understanding. This thoughtful reading helps to deepen understanding and protects against the mistakes mentioned above.

(Acts XXVII, 1-44)
Acts XXVII, 1, 6 — 'εἰς τὴν Ἰταλίαν' - 'eis ten Italian' - to Italy. Where to.

Acts XXVII, 2 — 'εἰς τοὺς κατὰ τὴν Ἀσίαν τόπους' - 'eis tous kata ten Asian topous' - to those places near Asia. Where to.

Acts XXVII, 3 — 'εἰς Σιδῶνα' - 'eis Sidona' - to Sidon. Where to.

Acts XXVII, 5 — 'εἰς Μύρρα τῆς Λυκίας' - 'eis Myrra tes Lykias' - to Myra of Lycia. Where to (a city later famous through the ministry of Saint Nicholas, archbishop of this city).

Acts XXVII, 6 — 'εἰς αὐτό' - 'eis auto' - into it. Where to.

Acts XXVII, 7 — 'ἐν ἱκαναῖς δὲ ἡμέραις' - 'en hikanais de hemerais' - for many days. When.

Acts XXVII, 8 — 'εἰς τόπον τινὰ' - 'eis topon tina' - to a certain (particular, some) place. Where to.

Acts XXVII, 11 — 'ἢ τοῖς ὑπὸ Παύλου λεγομένοις' - 'e tois hypo Paulou legomenois' - than those (words) that were spoken by Paul. The preposition 'hypo' here is with the genitive case and indicates the passive voice of the participle spoken.

Acts XXVII, 12 — 'εἰς Φοίνικα' - 'eis Phoinika' - to Phenice. Where to.

Acts XXVII, 17 — 'εἰς τὴν Σύρτιν' - 'eis ten Syrtin' - into the Syrtis.

Acts XXVII, 21 — 'ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν' - 'en meso auton' - amongst them. Where. Common expression. 'ἀπὸ τῆς Κρήτης' - 'apo tes Kretes' - from Crete. The preposition 'apo' indicates here that they completely left Crete.

Acts XXVII, 22 — 'ἐξ ὑμῶν' - 'ex hymon' - from among you. The preposition 'ek' in its form before the following 'hy' indicates here that it refers to all the journey participants in general, as it includes all those travelling with Paul and himself.

Acts XXVII, 26 — 'εἰς νῆσον δέ τινα' - 'eis neson de tina' - to some island. Where to.

Acts XXVII, 27 — 'ἐν τῷ Ἀδρίᾳ' - 'en to Adria' - in the Adriatic Sea. Where.

Acts XXVII, 29 — 'ἐκ πρύμνης' - 'ek prymnes' - from the stern. From where. The preposition 'ek' indicates here that they cast anchors from the stern, without additional specifications.

Acts XXVII, 30 — 'ἐκ τοῦ πλοίου' - 'ek tou ploiou' - from the ship. From where. 'εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν' - 'eis ten thalassan' - into the sea. Where to. 'ἐκ πρῴρης' - 'ek prores' - from the bow of the ship (from the front part of the vessel). From where.

Acts XXVII, 31, 37 — 'ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ' - 'en to ploio' - in the ship; on the ship. Where.

Acts XXVII, 34 — 'ἀπὸ τῆς κεφαλῆς' - 'apo tes kephales' - of the head; from the head. From where. The preposition 'apo' indicates here that it concerns the loss of those hairs, and in context, since there is a negation, that they will not be lost. A parallel to the Gospel words of the Saviour to the apostles. It indicates that God can show special care not only for faithful servants. See also:

Acts XXVII, 38, 40 — 'εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν' - 'eis ten thalassan' - into the sea. Where to.

Acts XXVII, 39 — 'εἰς ὃν' - 'eis hon' - to which.

Acts XXVII, 40 — 'εἰς τὸν αἰγιαλόν' - 'eis ton aigialon' - to the shore. Where to.

Acts XXVII, 41 — 'εἰς τόπον' - 'eis topon' - to a place. Where to. Common expression. 'ὑπὸ τῆς βίας' - 'hypo tes bias' - under the force (of the waves). The preposition 'hypo' here is with the genitive case and indicates here what was destroying the stern, that is, the means of destruction through which this was happening.

Acts XXVII, 44 — 'ἀπὸ τοῦ πλοίου' - 'apo tou ploiou' - from the ship. From where. The preposition 'apo' indicates here that they completely left the ship in doing so, thus reaching solid ground.
