John XIX, 20 — ‘Ἑβραϊστί, Ῥωμαϊστί, Ἑλληνιστί’ - ‘Ebraisti, Romaisti, Ellenisti’ - ‘in Hebrew, Latin, Greek’. Let me draw attention to the order of the languages. It has an implicit idea - the Jews and the Romans, represented by the enemies of Christ and Pontius Pilate, reached an agreement, but not the one that should have been based on the Greek common culture, on the vision of Jesus as an outstanding philosopher and teacher, but it is as if a certain mockery of this possibility, which Pilate neglected. But the Lord, through his sacrificial Love and Victory, turned the instrument of mockery into a sign of the unification of nations and of all humanity, of which only three nations are named.
John XIX, 27 — ‘ἀπ’ ἐκείνης τῆς ὥρας' - ap ekeines tes oras
- from that hour
. ‘εἰς τὰ ἴδια’ - ‘eis ta idia’ - ‘to himself’. A common expression with the meaning of close personal relationships.
John XIX, 31 — ‘ἐν τῷ σαββάτῳ’ - ‘en to sabbato’ - ‘on the Sabbath’. ‘ἡμέρα’ - ‘emera’ - ‘day’.
