(Ephesians IV, 14-19)
Ephesians IV, 14 — ‘ἐν τῇ κυβίᾳ’ - ‘en te kybia’ - ‘in a cube; with a cube’. This refers to a game of dice. ‘ἐν πανουργίᾳ’ - ‘en panourgia’ - ‘in a cunning trick; with a cunning trick’. Both translations are possible.

Ephesians IV, 15, 16 — ‘ἐν ἀγάπῃ’ - ‘en agape’ - ‘in love’. ‘εἰς αὐτὸν’ - ‘eis auton’ - ‘in Him’. Here the preposition ‘eis’ emphasises movement and gradual development, growth.

Ephesians IV, 16 — ‘ἐξ οὗ’ - ‘ex ou’ - ‘from Whom’. Indicates the Source of origin and the beginning of movement. ‘ἐν μέτρῳ’ - ‘en metro’ - ‘in measure’. A common expression. ‘εἰς οἰκοδομὴν’ - ‘eis oikodomen’ - ‘into house-building; for house-building’. The preposition ‘eis’ here indicates the purpose of the action.

Ephesians IV, 17 — ‘ἐν κυρίῳ’ - ‘en kyrio’ - ‘in the Lord’. ‘ἐν ματαιότητι’ - ‘en mataioteti’ - ‘in vanity’.

Ephesians IV, 18 — ‘ἐν αὐτοῖς’ - ‘en autois’ - ‘in them’.

Ephesians IV, 19 — ‘εἰς ἐργασίαν’ - ‘eis ergasian’ - ‘into licentiousness’. It indicates the direction of fall, decline. ‘ἐν πλεονεξίᾳ’ - ‘en pleonexia’ - ‘in greed’.

(Luke IX, 49-56)
Luke IX, 51, 53 — ‘ἐν τῷ συμπληροῦσθαι’ - ‘en to symplerousthai’ - difficult to translate, literally similar to ‘in approaching’. ‘εἰς Ἱερουσαλήμ’ - ‘eis Ierousalem’ - ‘to Jerusalem’.

Luke IX, 52 — ‘εἰς πόλιν’ - ‘eis polin’ - ‘into the city (settlement)’.

Luke IX, 54 — ‘ἀπὸ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ’ - ‘apo tou ouranou’ - ‘from heaven’. The preposition ‘apo’ may indicate that the fire will leave heaven, which in turn may indicate that the disciples' mood and desires were far from heavenly. Many lists do not mention Elijah. Neither are the words of Jesus' rebuke quoted below.

Luke IX, 56 — ‘εἰς ἑτέραν κώμην’ - ‘eis heteran komen’ - ‘to another village’.
