A Lot of Joy from God!

🇬🇧 Christ Is Risen! 🌞

Dedicated to Emma Kok.

(Acts XVII, 19 – 28)

There is a good article about Acts XVII, 26 at the following link (where the reading from Genesis is mentioned):

Paul’s sermon in Athens, in the Areopagus. It is rich in theology, and I wrote about one verse earlier.

I note that Paul relies on the culture of the people he is addressing, and pays attention to them, even though their traditions and faith are connected with polytheism.

In general, all of this is about God’s Providence for all people, not just the faithful – God cares about all people. At the same time, He has prepared salvation in Christ Jesus, which is already greater than God’s Providence.

(John XII, 19 – 36)

Also read earlier this year, see comments here:

John XII, 24 – ‘κοκκος’ – ‘kokkos’ – ‘grain’.

John XII, 26 – ‘εμοι’ – ‘emoi’ – Me. ‘ειμι’ – ‘eimi’ – (I) ‘am’. It is used only with emphasis. ‘εμος’ – ‘emos’ – ‘My, of Me’ (servant).

John XII, 30 – ‘εμε’ – ‘eme’ – ‘Me’.

John XII, 32 – ‘εμαυτου’ – ‘emautou’ – ‘Myself’.

John XII, 33 – ‘ημελλεν’ – ‘emellen’ – ‘was about to, intended’ - from ‘μελλω’ – ‘mello’.

To the apostle Simon the Zealot:
(1 Corinthians IV, 9-16; Matthew XIII, 54-58)
1 Corinthians IV, 10 – ‘μωροι’ – ‘moroi’ – ‘foolish’ – from ‘μωρος’ – ‘moros’.

1 Corinthians IV, 13 – ‘παρακαλουμεν’ – ‘parakaloumen’ – ‘we pray, we ask (God)’ (here, in general, the word is polysemous).

1 Corinthians IV, 16 – ‘παρακαλω’ – ‘parakalo’ – ‘I ask’ (here, in general, the word is polysemous).

The Apostle’s reading about the apostolic work. The apostles work as pioneers, paving the way, and then it is much easier for the faithful to follow them. And as pioneers, it is always more difficult for apostles. But the Lord strengthens them.

The Gospel reading is not associated with the name of Simon the Zealot (the Simon mentioned in the text is a cousin of James, the Lord’s brother, an apostle from the 70th, whose memorial Day was 10 May according to the Julian calendar).

Nevertheless, the apostles, like Jesus, mostly preached outside their homeland.

Glory be to Thee, our God, glory be to Thee!
