2 Corinthians X, 8 — ‘ἡμῶν’ - ‘emon’ - ‘us (ours)’. ‘εἰς οἰκοδομὴν’ - ‘eis oikodomen’ - ‘into the edifice’. ‘εἰς καθαίρεσιν’ - ‘eis kathairesin’ - ‘into destruction’. The preposition ‘eis’ here indicates the purpose of the action.
2 Corinthians X, 12 — ‘ἐν ἑαυτοῖς’ - ‘en eautois’ - ‘in themselves’.
2 Corinthians X, 13, 15 — ‘ἡμεῖς’ - ‘emeis’ - ‘we’. ‘εἰς τὰ ἄμετρα’ - ‘eis ta ametra’ - ‘into immensity; immensely’. Here we need to translate the meaning as follows. ‘ἐμέρισεν ἡμῖν’ - ‘emerisen emin’ - ‘has given us’.
2 Corinthians X, 14 — ‘εἰς ὑμᾶς’ - ‘eis ymas’ - ‘to you’. ‘ἐν τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ’ - ‘en to euangelio’ - ‘in the Gospel; by the Gospel’. Both translations are possible here, although they are different.
2 Corinthians X, 15 — ‘ἐν ἀλλοτρίοις’ - ‘en allotriois’ - ‘among others; among other people’. ‘ἐν ὑμῖν’ - ‘en ymin’ - ‘’in you‘’. ‘ἡμῶν εἰς περισσείαν’ - ‘emon eis perisseian’ - ‘our abundantly'.
2 Corinthians X, 16 — ‘εἰς τὰ ὑπερέκεινα’ - ‘eis ta hyperekeina’ - ‘those which are beyond’. ‘ἐν ἀλλοτρίῳ’ - ‘en allotrio’ - ‘in someone else's; in other people's; by other's’. Both variants are possible. ‘εἰς τὰ ἕτοιμα’ - ‘eis ta etoima’ - ‘ready for the hands’. A common expression that means ‘to be ready’.
2 Corinthians X, 17 — ‘ἐν κυρίῳ’ - ‘en kyrio’ - ‘in the Lord; by the Lord’. Both translations are possible, and they are quite different. The first means unity and abiding in the Lord, so that the praise is in something else, not in the Lord directly, but associated with Him. The second option means to praise the Lord directly. But the original text allows for both options, which can complement each other in meaning here.
This is a vivid example of the active semantic use of prepositions to express complex thoughts.
Luke IV, 16 — ‘εἰς Ναζαρά’ - ‘eis Nazara’ - ‘to Nazareth’. ‘ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῶν σαββάτων εἰς τὴν συναγωγήν’ - ‘en te emera ton sabbaton eis ten synagogen’ - ‘on the Sabbath day to the synagogue’.
Luke IV, 18 — ‘ἐν ἀφέσει’ - ‘en aphesei’ - ‘out to freedom’.
Luke IV, 20 — ‘ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ’ - ‘en te synagogue’ - ‘in the synagogue’.
Luke IV, 21 — ‘ἐν τοῖς ὠσὶν’ - ‘en tois osin’ - ‘in the ears’.
Luke IV, 22 — ‘ἐκ τοῦ στόματος’ - ‘ek tou stomatos’ - ‘’from the mouth‘’. The preposition ‘ek’ indicates the source of the origin.
