The apostle speaks of Abraham and Sarah as an example of faith, as an example of receiving promises, and as an example of promises that are still coming and will continue. In particular, to explain these latter, Paul speaks of seeking the homeland
, and explains that this is not Egypt or Chaldea (where Abraham and Sarah came from), where the Israelites, if they had sought it, had plenty of time to return. The homeland
here is literally the Kingdom of God.
