it is written that the use of prepositions is important for the correct understanding of important and actual issues, in particular the issue of power, I am writing commentaries on the use of these prepositions. As a piece of advice on how to read the text, you can read the verse in translation and/or in the original (if you have the opportunity), and then the commentary on prepositions here. Next, you need to understand which part of the verse the commentary refers to, and consider what it affirms — or less often, denies — that is essential to understanding. This thoughtful reading helps to deepen understanding and protects against the mistakes mentioned above.

To Saint Peter Mohyla:
(Hebrews VII, 26 — VIII, 2; Luke VI, 17-23)
Hebrews VII, 26 — ‘κεχωρισμένος ἀπὸ τῶν ἁμαρτωλῶν’ - ‘kekhorismenos apo ton amartolon’ - ‘separated from sinners’. The preposition ‘apo’ indicates complete separation, lack of commonality and complicity in sins. Christ is sinless, in this sense, having nothing in common with sins.

Hebrews VII, 28 — ‘εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τετελειωμένον’ - ‘eis ton aiona teteleiomenon’ - ‘accomplished (perfect) forever’. The preposition ‘eis’ is used in a common expression.

Hebrews VIII, 1 — ‘ἐν δεξιᾷ τοῦ θρόνου τῆς μεγαλωσύνης ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς’ - ‘en dexia tou thronou tes megalosynes en tois ouranois’ - ‘at the right hand of the throne of majesty in the heavens’. That is, in the highest glory and honour, alongside the Father.

(2 Timothy III, 16-IV, 4)
2 Timothy III, 16 — ‘ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ’ - ‘en dikaiosyne’ - ‘in righteousness’.

2 Timothy IV, 2 — ‘ἐν πάσῃ μακροθυμίᾳ καὶ διδαχῇ’ - ‘en pase makrothymia kai didakhe’ - ‘in all longsuffering and doctrine; with all longsuffering and teaching’. Both translations are possible, the first indicating that longsuffering and teaching are virtues and gifts that are needed in the work of preaching Christ, and the second that these virtues and gifts themselves are the strength for preaching.

2 Timothy IV, 4 — ‘ἀπὸ μὲν τῆς ἀληθείας’ - ‘apo men tes aletheias’ - ‘from the truth’. The preposition ‘apo’ indicates that the people mentioned here will turn away from the truth, and the reinforcing particle indicates a contrast - those people, contrary to reason and their nature, will turn away from the truth to myths and fictions.
