it is written that the use of prepositions is important for the correct understanding of important and actual issues, in particular the issue of power, I am writing commentaries on the use of these prepositions. As a piece of advice on how to read the text, you can read the verse in translation and/or in the original (if you have the opportunity), and then the commentary on prepositions here. Next, you need to understand which part of the verse the commentary refers to, and consider what it affirms — or less often, denies — that is essential to understanding. This thoughtful reading helps to deepen understanding and protects against the mistakes mentioned above.

Liturgy:
Acts IX, 19, 22, 27 — ἐν Δαμασκῷ
- en Damasko
- in Damascus
. Where.
Acts IX, 20 — ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς
- en tais synagogais
- in the synagogues
. Where.
Acts IX, 21 — οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ πορθήσας εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ τοὺς ἐπικαλουμένους τὸ ὄνομα τοῦτο
- oukh houtos estin ho porthesas eis Hierousalem tou epikaloumenous to onoma touto
- 'is this not the one, who devastated in Jerusalem those who call this name'. That is, Christians (the name of Christ). The preposition ‘eis’ indicates the direction of action here - Saul directed his activities towards the Christians in Jerusalem, in fact, ‘against Jerusalem as a city of Christians’. Perhaps there is also a religio-national context here. 'εἰς τοῦτο' - eis touto
- 'for this'. The preposition eis
indicates the purpose of the action. The question of the people in Damascus was obviously different from the possible question of those in Jerusalem, since Saul was well-known there. See more on this here:

Acts IX, 25 — ‘ἐν σπυρίδι’ - ‘en spyridi’ - ‘in a plaited basket’. In what. The name Spyridon came from this word.
Acts IX, 26, 28 — εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ
- eis Hierousalem
- to Jerusalem
. Where to.
Acts IX, 27 — ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ
- en te hodo
- on the way; on the road
. Where (when). 'ἐπαρρησιάσατο ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι Ἰησοῦ' - ‘eparresiasato en to onomati Iesou’ - ‘spoke boldly (openly, freely, confidently) in the name of Jesus; spoke boldly with the name of Jesus’. There are two possible interpretations. The first indicates that Saul was speaking as a Christian, and the second that he was preaching as one sent by Jesus.
Acts IX, 28 — ‘παρρησιαζόμενος ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ κυρίου’ - ‘parresiazomenos en to onomati tou kyriou’ - ‘boldly (openly, freely, confidently) speaking in the name of the Lord; boldly speaking with the name of the Lord’. Similar to that in verse 27, see above just now.
Acts IX, 30 — εἰς Καισάριαν
- eis Kaisarian
- into Caesarea
. Where to. 'εἰς Ταρσόν' - eis Tarson
- to Tarsus
. Where to. This is Saul's hometown, i.e. homewards
.
