it is written that the use of prepositions has important significance for the correct understanding of important and topical questions, particularly the question of power, I am writing comments regarding the use of precisely these prepositions. As advice regarding reading what is written — one can read the verse in translation or/and original (whoever has such possibility), and then the corresponding comment regarding prepositions here. Then it is necessary to understand which part of the verse the comment concerns, and also to consider what essential for understanding it affirms — or more rarely — denies. Such thoughtful reading helps to deepen understanding and protects from the mentioned mistakes.
The correct statements in the work at the link:
https://oleksandr-zhabenko.github.io/en/commentaries/02082025.html
are connected with comments written during more than a year, during which I better understood the ideas, usage, logic, even peculiarities of pronunciation, therefore now it is appropriate to review and correct the allowed inaccuracies. Instead of correcting in old texts, I will correct in new ones (I have already begun to do this). Therefore the work continues, particularly it is necessary to consider the readings during about two weeks in August-September 2024, when I did not have access to the Internet network. If you notice inaccuracies in the comments at the links cited there, then it is worth checking whether there are newer ones regarding the same reading. I will update the list of links regarding prepositions at the link:
https://oleksandr-zhabenko.github.io/en/commentaries/02082025.html
to keep the version of the text current and in future.
Since yesterday was a feast on a weekday, yesterday's daily readings are transferred to today, in brackets I present two readings consecutively.
Liturgy:
2 Corinthians VIII, 16 — 'ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ Τίτου' - 'en te kardia Titou' - in the heart of Titus
. That is, that God gave Titus such diligence in the heart. Where.
2 Corinthians VIII, 18 — 'ἐν τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ' - 'en to euangelio' - in the Gospel
. That is, they praise the brother both for living according to the Gospel, and they praise according to the Gospel. Two meanings.
2 Corinthians VIII, 19 — 'ὑπὸ τῶν ἐκκλησιῶν' - 'hypo ton ekklesion' - by the Churches
. The preposition 'hypo' is here with the genitive case and indicates the passive voice of the participle chosen
. 'προθυμιαν' - 'prothymian' - readiness for action, willingness
.
2 Corinthians VIII, 20 — 'ἐν τῇ ἁδρότητι' - 'en te hadroteti' - in this abundance; with this abundance
. Both variants are possible, the content of which is not entirely clear, but the general thought is obvious. 'ὑφ' ἡμῶν' - 'hyph hemon' - by us
. The preposition 'hypo' in its form before the next 'he' here with the genitive case and indicates here by whom the ministry is performed, as well as the passive state.
2 Corinthians VIII, 22, 23, IX, 5 — 'ἐν πολλοῖς' - 'en pollois' - in many (things, matters)
. In what. 'εἰς ὑμᾶς' - 'eis hymas' - to you; for you
.
2 Corinthians VIII, 24 — 'εἰς αὐτοὺς' - 'eis autous' - to them; for them
. 'εἰς πρόσωπον' - 'eis prosopon' - before the face; before
. Common expression.
2 Corinthians IX, 1 — 'εἰς τοὺς ἁγίους' - 'eis tous hagious' - to the saints; for the saints
. Here the exact meaning is unclear, but the general one is understandable, both translation variants are possible.
2 Corinthians IX, 2 — 'ἀπὸ πέρυσι' - 'apo perysi' - from last year
. Common expression. The preposition 'apo' indicates here the beginning of the time count regarding an important change.
2 Corinthians IX, 3 — 'ἐν τῷ μέρει' - 'en to merei' - in this case
. Common expression.
2 Corinthians IX, 4 — 'ἐν τῇ ὑποστάσει ταύτῃ' - 'en te hypostasei taute' - in this confidence; in this matter
. Here the expression is unclear in exact meaning, only generally understandable.

2 Corinthians IX, 13 — 'εἰς τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ Χριστοῦ' - 'eis to euangelion tou CHristou' - for the Gospel of Christ
. The preposition 'eis' indicates here that for the sake of which the obedience — the accomplishment of the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ about salvation and restoration. 'εἰς αὐτοὺς καὶ εἰς πάντας' - 'eis autous kai eis pantas' - for them and for all
. The preposition 'eis' emphasises the purpose of the activity.
2 Corinthians X, 1 — 'ἐν ὑμῖν' - 'en hymin' - among you
. 'θαρρω' - 'tharro' - (I) am bold (in a good sense), have zeal
. 'εἰς ὑμᾶς' - 'eis hymas' - to you; concerning you
. The preposition 'eis' indicates here the direction of action — concerning whom.
2 Corinthians X, 2 — 'θαρρησαι' - 'tharresai' - would show boldness, zeal, would be zealous
. 'ταλμησαι' - 'talmesai' - would dare, would have boldness
. The first of the two words is more about the state of calm boldness
, constant boldness
, while the second — about decisive transition, manifestation of boldness.
2 Corinthians X, 3 — 'ἐν σαρκὶ' - 'en sarki' - in the flesh
. 'στρατευομεθα' - 'strateuometha' - wage war, fight, struggle as warriors
. From this word also strategy
— that is, Paul means reasonable struggle, built on reason, not on emotions. The life of the apostles (and with them the faithful who are like them) is like large-scale overcoming of evil. Further Paul says that the spiritual weapons of the faithful are strong for destroying strongholds (able to overcome great and widespread evil).
2 Corinthians X, 5 — 'εἰς τὴν ὑπακοὴν' - 'eis ten hypakoen' - into obedience; for obedience
. Where to and for what.
2 Corinthians X, 6 — 'ἐν ἑτοίμῳ' - 'en hetoimo' - in readiness
. Common expression.
The apostle Paul encourages helping the faithful in need, whom he calls holy (for the sake of God's grace among them, the faithful themselves are not necessarily personally saints). See more at the link:

The names of the apostles in different Gospels differ somewhat, since some of the apostles had two names.
sons of thunder
— a place only in Mark. It is considered that it is spoken of their zeal, temperament, character, also a certain prophecy about gifts.

Here this indicates that it is spoken of personal close relationships, that is, His relatives.
Mark III, 22 — 'ἀπὸ Ἱεροσολύμων' - 'apo Hierosolymon' - from Jerusalem
. The preposition 'apo' indicates here that they completely left Jerusalem (and possibly, the spiritual dimension is also meant).
Mark III, 23 — 'ἐν παραβολαῖς' - 'en parabolais' - in parables; with parables
. Both translation variants are possible, the first indicates the way to express thought and logic, the second that the teaching itself had the form of parables.
Mark III, 27 — 'εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν τοῦ ἰσχυροῦ' - 'eis ten oikian tou iskhyrou' - into the house of the strong man
. Where to.
To the Holy Hieromartyr Anthimus, Bishop of Nicomedia, and others who suffered with him:
